The founding year was 1983 in Bangladesh by Dr. Abdul Alim Siddiqui. He was born on 2 February 1944 at his family home in Shantinagar, Dhaka (present-day Bangladesh). He had studied at Amir Khas School and then Loreto High School, both in Dhaka. He started his career as a teacher at the Daulatpur Government First Grade College when he was 15 years old. After finishing his M.A. in Economics from the University of Dhaka, he started teaching at the Department of Economics of Dhaka University. He was a student leader during his college life. He worked as a lecturer of economics at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Barisal and Khulna University, Khulna (both in Bangladesh) till he went to Germany for higher studies. From 1971 to 1975, Abdul Alim Siddiqui studied at the Hochschule für Wirtschaft und Recht (University of Applied Sciences) in Berlin (West Germany). He received his diploma (equivalent to an M.B.A. in the US) and his doctorate (Ph.D.) in Economics from there. His dissertation was on development economics and titled: "The Dynamics of the Economic Development of Bangladesh (1947–1973): A Case Study". After 1964, Abdul Alim Siddiqui remained active in politics. He was involved with the student wing of Pakistan People's Party (PPP). As a result, he was jailed by Ayub Khan's government for 10 months.
